    Mark 10:27

    Dom & Joy Alfieri

My wife and I grew up playing sports and developed a fondness for our jersey numbers over the years. My wife’s number was always #10 and mine was always #27.  While dating we started catching ourselves looking at the clock at exactly 10:27 and eventually those two numbers grew to have so much meaning to the both of us that I actually proposed to my wife on October 27th (10/27).  In the years to follow these numbers would show up in our lives during times of worry or stress.  We began to see each occurrence of the numbers 10-27 together as a sign of God’s presence in our lives.  Over the years it has become our own secret language between us and God that has provided comfort in some of our toughest times!  The most impactful display of this was the day that our premature twins were born.  The months before their birth were filled with overwhelming fear and apprehension.  Shortly after 17 weeks gestation our twins were diagnosed with a devastating virus called Cytomegalovirus (CMV).  At the time of their diagnosis the specialists recommended aborting the pregnancy due to the severity of their symptoms.  We chose to walk in faith and trust in God’s plan and on May 3rd, 2009 at 10:27am our son Carmine was born followed by his sister Giulliana just two minutes later.  Although they arrived two months earlier than expected and would have a long road ahead of them, we knew that God was with us and everything would be ok!  About 5 years later a friend of my wife’s sent her a picture of a pillow with the verse Mark 10:27 knowing of our 10-27 infatuation…it was from this moment on that our family adopted Mark 10:27 as a family bible verse knowing wholeheartedly that “With God all things are possible.”
